Raymarine fluxgate compass replacement

I want to replace my Raymarine fluxgate compass (2004 vintage) which links to a Raymarine ST7000 smart pilot. There are several second hand items on the net which look identical but I am not sure whether there might be compatibility issues. There appears to be no serial number or other identifying marks on my compass, although I have read that I should look for an M81190. Am I taking a risk just buying one that looks identical? Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

If it's the SeaTalk one they're pretty standard even including the Raytheon one. Some are oil filled and some are not but apparently that makes very little difference. If you're near Portsmouth I have one for sale you could try out before buying.
