Raymarine ECI-100

We have Volvo D6s with the Raymarine ECI-100 set up. Anyone know how it actually calculates the fuel consumption litres/mile please? It's all up and running ok but just wondered how it does it. Thanks.

Just got this info about ECI 100. Still not sure how fuel rate is physically measured by the engine though.

"The Volvo engine will provide engine fuel rate, the Volvo senders the fuel level, distance will come from the STng data – speed/log instrument data will enable the consumption to be identified"

I assume the engine management system meters the fuel use and combines that with speed through water from the log? Or am I missing something?

That's how I read it. Just wondered how the engine management system actually meters the fuel flow. All magic to me.

Without a data input from a paddle-wheel log or GPS, the EVC will only give instantaneous fuel consumption (litres / hour etc). With a GPS input, the EVC system calculates the full trip-log data (mpg, distance travelled etc). If the GPS is connected by NMEA2000, this trip data is also output onto the NMEA backbone and can be picked up on your plotter.

At least, that's how it is supposed to work - mine will currently only take a speed input from a paddle-wheel log (not a GPS) but then still fails to compute the trip data... suggestions on a postcard please!
