Father Christmas bought me an E80 plotter for Christmas (and the radar bundle that goes with it for the wife). I found a £10 Whitlock binnacle console at Beaulieu and was looking forward to mounting the E80 on it. The installation notes require a distance of not less than 1 metre between a magnetic compass and the plotter.

Anybody any experience to confound this? (And the above deck below deck argument has been flogged to death elsewhere!)

I will ask Raymarine also.

It would be worth plugging it in on a longish lead. Note compass bearing with it both switched on and off. If no fluctuation I would go for it.

My Raymarine plotter has definitely interfered with its nearest compass. They are about 50cm apart and the compass is showing deviation of 0 to 15 degrees. I have two wheels & binnacles (Bav46) and the two compasses make interesting differing readings.
Just keep a good handbearing compass handy with you wish to operate without the plotter.
