My display has developed a problem whereby the Seatalk interface at the back of the display has shed most of the plastic lip and it is proving difficult to get the cable to properly seat. I have been quoted nearly £800 to repair it which seems outrageous. The screen is over 5 years old now and is the slave screen on the flybridge of Jules Verne, my Trader 50.

So, anyone know of any second hand E80's?? Is there a market for them??

seeing as no one else has replied I will at least bring it back to the top.

Do you mean the 3 pin seatalk lead ?
Depending what you need the seatalk for you could ignore it and take the same data from the main lead and or the HSB lead.

You could also take the 3 pin plug off and connect 3 spade connectors to the power lead direct to the male pins.

Could do with a photo really to see exactly which plug is the problem.

Ebay usually has most spares.

Daka,

thanks for your kind reply. I may be confusing myself and everyone here with my description of the problem. So, I have three leads into the back of the E80; one is the 3 pin lead ( power?? ), one is the BT phone type connector, and one is a 5 pin connector. Once all are properly seated and connected we have no problem. However, the 5 pin connector ( Seatalk? ) is difficult to seat, and over time the pins have been bent and straightened, and crucially the plastic lip that the connector fastens around when screwed tight has broken in most places, but I can just get enough purchase on it to make it work. If I cannot, the screen does not display real time data and keeps telling me it cannot access the database and do I want to make it the master screen? This continues until I get the 5 pin connector properly seated at which point it behaves admirably as the slave screen.

Would love to send a photo but boat is in Spain and I am in the UK!

Raymarine in Spain tell me that it is possible to replace the entire connector panel which will fix the problem, but at E800 that is getting up to half the price of a new one and it is 5 years old.........

I can live with the problem as long as the rest of the lip doesnt break, and I always have the E120 down in the lower helm, but would like to fix it if possible.

Last time I looked there were no E80's on E Bay and I couldn't find any on the internet for sale second hand.

All suggestions welcome.

If I deduce that its the upper helm one that you take on/off regularly that has worn away then I am not sure how helpful this is but could you swap the displays.

Ie
your lower helm be used upstairs and you dodgy one be used down stairs and lead glued in as you dont need to move it again ?

turning ALL power off , Submerging the lead plug in coke for 30 mins, rinsing with water and drying will clean the sockets.

Can you make a short fly-lead to avoid the need to remove the plug from the plotter? Then you could glue the plug onto the plotter and use the new plug/socket at the end of the fly-lead to split the wire when it needs removing.

Just a thought,
Cheers
Paul.

I like the idea of a fly lead, but is it possible to split such a data cable? Any experets out there done this or got a view?

Daka...good thought but the displays are very different sizes. Lower helm is E120 and upper helm is E80.

Is ther a second hand market for these screens? Havent seen one on E bay and couldnt find one second hand on the internet.
