Raymarine E120 plotter problem

I returned to my boat at the weekend and found that my lower helm plotter was not displaying any cartography despite the fact that the cartridge appeared to be in it. The last time my boat was used, it was skippered by a professional skipper who took my son and some friends out for 2 days. After some interrogation, my son told me that the skipper spent a lot of time fiddling about with a cartridge in the plotter and it is possible that he was trying to insert his own cartridge into the plotter

I checked out the cartridge socket in the plotter at the lower helm and noticed that one of the contact prongs seems to be bent over - see photo

Anyone know how to repair this?

Unfortunate incident... I would try to find a second hand slot as a part from a dead unit. It will need to be soldiered to there but it is not a major job. You can check for Coastal Rides. I think they have a lot of dead stock of old Raymarines.

cant you get your son (or someone < 25yo with good eyesight) with a needle to try and bend them back where they should be?
Not even sure it's possible, not familiar with the cards Raymarine use.
I guess you want to use the lowerhelm plotter socket for security, that's what I also do. Easy to nick the card from the f/b plotter (or even the whole plotter!) compared to lower helm one...

IIRC, Deleted User has one E120 in both helm stations, so it's easy to swap them.
Assuming that also the other one has the card slot, that is.
With my previous generation (Pathfinder) MFDs, I only have the card slot in one of the three units.
 
The card reader can be removed and replaced as a separate item - the pin can also be bent back in situ if you're careful.

Can you just put it in the upper unit ? You will need to make it master but either one works

Thats what I've been doing but it is a PITA to have to switch the upper unit on before I can plot a route. The other issue is that if the upper unit were to fail (and it has in the past) then I have no mapping at the lower unit so I would rather get the lower unit working

Just as a general point I have looked into replacing the E120 units with new MFDs but I have been told by Raymarine that their new MFDs wont communicate with their old Seatalk system which means that I have to replace all of the navigation components completely which is obviously something I want to avoid due to the cost. For that reason I want to keep my existing E120s going for as long as possible

M, I can't be positive about the difference with the E120, if any (maybe DV can).
But if the RL80 is anything to go by, swapping the card reader is feasible but a bit of a PITA - swapping the whole unit if by far simpler and faster.
Btw, you must unmount both units also for swapping the card reader.
So, half of the job is the same, and you can save the second half, which is arguably the worst.

In principle I agree but the E120 is no longer available new from Raymarine so you have to buy them secondhand on eBay and they still cost several hundred Pounds. I would happily spend the money if I could be sure that a secondhand unit would last longer than the unit I have but of course I cant be sure so I could end up replacing a perfectly good E120, albeit with a faulty card reader, with another unit that may fail quickly
 
Try bending the pin back into shape, that's going to be the easiest course of action, at least to attempt first before resorting to other more painful measures.

OK understood but, as I said above, that leaves me with no functioning plotter if the good one goes down

I took it our from my E120 which stays disassembled at my office desk due to another modification. The part doesn't even need soldiering, it is a plug-on item. The Raymarine part number is R58202. It is sold at the below site for USD 145+shipping but, I still insist that you can find it easily from a Raymarine service who will take it out from a dead unit and sell it to you for 20 quids:
