Chum has the E series nav gear on his recently purchased boat.
He has an Ipad with the Navionics automatic routing option and loves it .
Not fussed about touchscreen.
Whats the least expensive way of upgrading his Raymarine system to get something similar , some sort of software upgrade or bin the lot and spend £8K ( the quote from PRS ) on complete new set up.
Comments welcome.

Presumably his existing set up has other Raymarine stuff (autopilot, depthsounder etc) probably mnea 0183 rather than n2k? whatever he buys needs to be compatible with that? I'd be tempted to throw money at a whole new system installed by somebody really competent

Which e series. The square one with buttons at the bottom or the more rounded one?

A total upgrade with a single 12" mfd, evo a/p, wind , depth IRO £8k.
I have just renewed my system.
E120 classic upstairs, E80 downstairs, ais transponder, dsm 300/ fishfinder, st 60 wind, navionics uk platinum charts & europe to Canaries, all interfaced less than £2500.
I already had a evo 200 a/p./ 2kw analoque radar

I have E120 MFDs at both the upper and lower helm on my boat. I have had 2 screen failures over the years and was lucky to pick up used replacement units from a mate and eBay. It is only a matter of time before another one goes. I have looked at replacing them with latest Axiom units but I will have to replace the radar at the same time which will make the total cost around £10k which I'm reluctant to spend

Is there a way to upgrade or recondition the E series units?

You can convert the E-Series to LEDs.

You can upgrade to a digital used system for around £2500 and sell the old one for half that probably.
