I recently connected my XB to my C80 after updating the software. It works fine but after changing the baud rate to match the XB I have lost the gps position on my radio (Simrad). I talked to Raymarine who said the radio would need a baud rate of 4800 and to use the appropriate neama output from the ais. I have done this but still no gps position. No sure what to do next
The dsc system was working fine before I connected the XB.
Any ideas please?

I'm guessing that the NMEA cable from the AIS is transmitting on 38400 which the RD68 doesn't like and the problem is that the Vesper AIS has just a single NMEA183 outlet.

Can you not pick up a GPS 4800 feed from anywhere else in your system, e.g. the C80, or perhaps a radar, Navtex, anything really?

AIS over NMEA0183 needs to be at 38,400 baud. You've set the AIS to output this and the plotter to receive it, so they work fine. The radio needs to receive position information at 4,800 baud, but unfortunately the plotter's output has to run at the same speed as its input so that won't work any more.

You say you've connected the radio to another output on the AIS, but the manual online says it only has one, so I don't see how you can have done.

Best solution is probably an independent GPS puck for the radio.

The easiest solution would be a standalone GPS receiver; the Evermore SA320 is often recommended, at around £75. However, in view of the age of your radio, I'd suggest you might look at replacing it with a new VHF with integral GPS - the Standard Horizon GX1700E for example, at around £155.

Unfortunately I did warn you that this was likely to be a problem Halo ..... my last post in http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?469514-Vesper-XB8000-Raymarine-C80

I expected this because I has exactly the same problem which I got around by buying a Digital Yacht multiplexer on Ebay for £50.

Very easy to connect up and I can now run any mixture of NMEA speeds without any issues.

Many thanks for the most helpful responses guys.
I will await comments from Vesper and let you know how I proceed
Have a great Xmas
