I had my C80 MFD repaired and it works great but after a while in use a mist builds up on the inside of the screen. The weather has been very cold and the C80 is on the sterring wheel pedastal. I have sailed in all weathers through the year for ages and its only since the repair that this has happened. I contacted the repairer who says that the C80 has no IP rating and they do get failures of the key board but rarely failures like this. The system breathes aparently rather than being totally sealed. They will do a report if I wish.
1. Has anyone else had these symptoms
2. has anyone else sealed up a pedastal mounted C80
3. Any other thoughts ??

According to a previous thread the front panel is waterproof and water gets in at the back where the cable goes. Is this exposed?

I would be tempted to put it in a small room with a dehumidifier running.

I had the same problem with my SH chartplotter, Opened up the unit and placed 2 Silica Gel Desiccant Sachets inside. Been fine for 3 years now.

I would take it apart in the house, make sure everything has time to dry and breath.

You could also look for a seal kit but they are pretty rare these days and the casing of the C80 is annoyingly weak for tightening up the screws on the front facia.

Its very easy to mess up the seal on the back incorrectly so I think a basic strip down and kitchen rebuild is in order.

You could also vaseline all the mating surfaces of the seals and the unit.

I made this video a while back on repairing a C80. Should give you some confidence before you take it apart.

Many thanks for the responses. Will take it off dismantle as far as I am comfortable with and leave it in the airing cupboard for a week, reassemble with silica hell if possible and seal as well as I can
