I have just bought a boat with a Raymarine C70 Multifunction Radar/Chart plotter fitted ,but with no chart card..
I have had no experience of this type of nav aid and need a bit of help. (Everyone I know is like me, a Fred or a Barny Flintstone) I live in the Falmouth area and would really like a bit of a chat with someone who could explain a some of the basics-- software etc ? ? Chris.

As stated above the C70 uses the Navionics Gold Charts on a Compact Flash Card. If the software is fully updated it can make use of the sonar charts element of the Navionics+ charts but not the community data.

Originally Raymarine advised that the C series would only read Compact Flash cards up to 128Mb in size which are now all but unavailable. They introduced a card compatibility tool to download which would identify whether a card was compatible with the C series and changed the recommendation to specifically San Disc 256Mb cards.

The software can be upgraded to V5.04 or V5.16 which enables the C70 to read CF cards up to 16Gb and micro SD cards in a CF mount. However, if the software has not already been upgraded to this standard you will need to get hold of a small capacity CF card to enable the upgrade in the first place.

Navionics charts are now updateable on line for a year from first registration.

The data is all available on Raymarine’s site for Classic C Series. You will need to go to an agent to buy the Gold chart card in the first place if you don’t already have one and it may be best to get them to upgrade the software if it needs doing and you do not have a suitable card.

To start you off, the C70 will take Navionics Gold chart cards in Compact Flash (cf) format. I think you can download a quick guide off the Raymarine website. :encouragement:

Hit C series Classic and then the English option and it will give you the option of downloading a quick guide.

Thanks robmcg for that link. I have sent for a complete manual so should have more of a clue soon! Chris.
