My Raymarine screen has suddenly gone fuzzy and out of focus overnight - fine on Friday. Useless yesterday.!

Has anyone got any ideas what the fault may be and what is the best way of getting it resolved - I fear Raymarine will say that it's obsolete and can't be fixed no try to sell me a replacement.

All advice appreciated.

Most probably the ribbon connector block to the screen needs cleaning. You have to remove the front bezel (cover) from the plotter which gets you access to the screen connections and remove the ribbon connector. There are retaining tabs on the connector block which need flipping up to release it, sometimes its just a matter of pulling off the connector and pushing it back on to improve the connection.

A common problem, caused by bad connections internally either on ribbon connectors or the small "piggyback" circuit board that unclips from the main one. I fixed mine several times by dismantling and resetting connections but the fix lasted a year first time, six months next, then a couple of months. Took it to local Raymarine agent in Falmouth (BT Marine), who glued a connector in place. That lasted just under a year, and when the fault reappeared this spring they did it again FOC. So far so good.
