I have a C70 Chart plotter, about 4 years old, which occassionally on start up just presents a screen on multi-coloured vertical line. Sometime the screen clears but never properly to display the chart. However, returning to the boat a wek later everything works as designed with no interference. As the fault is intermitent I am reluctant to go to the cost of a repair. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Raymarine screen

My experience with Raymarine has always been excellent. The bods on the phone know their stuff and can usually diagnose quickly if you talk it through with them. I would give them a call but obviously check all wiring/connectors are in place.
Could it be a 12v problem?

Check your wiring from the switch panel to the display. I have the same plotter/radar and when I installed it, I had some bizzare proplems with the screen going white or the display disappearing altogether. Turned out that the wire from the supply switch was undersized and there was a voltage issue going to the display. It happened more regularly when the radar was switched on or the unit was accessing data off the CF card. I changed the supply wires for some beefier ones (lazily, I had just used what was there from the old radar) and hey presto, problem solved. It certainly sounds like a 12 volt supply problem. Worth a punt??

Known fault (My C70 had this problem but thread on this forum explained all) the connector to the LCD goes intermittent. If you press the display with your fingers and at the same time push the display upwards then the connection restores and the display works correctly. It has happened twice on my display in 5 years.

Hope this helps

I had something similar with my more humble A65. In anger, I rapped my knuckles onto the misbehaving display, and Hey Presto, it cleared, and has worked perfectly ever since.

Magic fingers, or just luck?

That's interesting: I'll try that next time it happens to mine. So far I've had fairly good results with the NormanS method.
