Is it possible to change the transducer only removing it from the fairing and replacing with a new one.My speed reading has failed. The paddle wheel rotates but no reading on the c90w. OR, is it possible to just change the insert, as I have a doc. that implies that there is another type of insert that can be spliced in to the cabling . It's a post 2009 transducer with both cables coming from the main body.
Thanks

The instructions probably say don’t splice but I and I am sure many others on here have done it with no issues.

Unless you need it just reconfigure the plotter to show gps speed. Paddle wheels get jammed and in the absence of a need to know water speed I would not bother fixing.

You can get a replacement paddle wheel kit that is easy to install (£28 from memory??)

I have the same transducer where the speed function just failed - I recognised that I didn’t really need it anyway, but still went ahead and replaced the paddle wheel - speed function still u/s, so I guess it is an issue with the transducer itself. Replacing that is a bigger/more expensive job and ideally I would fit a better sounder (without paddle wheel) - that is complicated as I would need a different hole in the bottom...

As said, whilst it was vaguely interesting to compare speed through the water with gps speed, the latter is more helpful.

Cheers

I have the same transducer with the same problem, and received advice on here a couple of weeks ago that the transducer probably didn't need changing. (Sorry forgotten adviser's name.*) Apparently the speed won't work if the temperature sensor fails, which they often do. The solution is to put a resistor of about 10k ohms across the temperature sensor connectors in the instrument head. This will give a fixed meaningless number on the temperature display, but enables the speed sensor to work again. (I've obtained a resistor, but haven't yet fitted it, so can't confirm it solved the problem for me, but it has for others.)

Should that not solve your problem, I believe that the transducer can be changed without disturbing the fairing, but don't have practical experience of it. (But have you seen the price of those transducers? )

p.s. The previous thread I mentioned is at http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?529771-Airmar-Triducer-issues , and JWilson was the poster who proposed the solution.
