Raymarine Axiom/B&G Vulcan touchscreens

Would the Axiom instead act as a slave to the notebook below and show e.g. navionics chart by Bluetooth from the notebook?

Sorry that is above my geek grade. I suspect not, the wifi streaming uses free Raymarine apps and streams whatever is on the axiom display, ie my navionics card or the radar display,The app allows to change ranges, zoom in/out, put radar to standby etc.

Just be aware that the Axiom Pro not only has the buttons that the normal Axiom doe snot have, but there are also differences such as better resolution screen, faster processor and more memory, SD card access from the front, ability to plug in a non powered external GPS antenna and other stuff also.

We went through all this last year and glad we went for the Axiom Pro as our plotter is in a Navpod at the wheel so use both the touchscreen and the buttons.

Also, depends what Raymarine AP you have, as we have an S3 and ST6002 control head and the plotter will not control this legacy AP but not a deal breaker, although we were thinking of upgrading to a new EVO AP at some stage!

Regarding the Raycontrol and Rayview apps, they are very good BUT would not work on my modern Android tablet and luckily I have an old IPAD2 that they work on very well so use that down below as a control/repeater.

There are a couple of Axiom Pro’s on eBay at the moment, not sure if I dare though.

I'm not answering your specific question, just generalising.

Our ancient Raymarine radar gave up the ghost and could not be repaired. We opted for Broadband which then necessitated a compatible MFD, and we opted for the NSS from which the Vulcan developed. We did not intend buying the NSS but bought it because it was the device that was compatible with Broadband.

If you decide you might want to add to your network with other devices (a new AP, radar, fishfinder, WiFi etc) then the MFD you choose might dictate the source of any additions and the ease with which they can talk to each other. In addition to looking at the touch screen and any problems you might want to consider the 'future'

We love the WiFi , on a iPad, as it allows us to control the NSS from the galley or berth. Our NSS is under cover at the helm - and we don't get much rain anyway :)

I was aware of the other differences when making my choice but the excellent installing dealers said I would not notice the difference in screen resolution which seems fine to me BTW plus in our case the Axiom is on a bracket mount not in an enclosed navpod. I opted for a faster compass same time to better synchronise radar/chart overlay and in case a lottery win would allow later upgrade of the very ancient pilot which would need at least a new course computer at >£1000. the original Raymarine apps on my android worked with the knackered original display would not work either but uninstalling and re-installing anew did the trick, including on my phone and the admirals android notebook. The latest 'viewer' app is different and the 'control' is integrated as a side panel in that so a separate 'control' app is not needed and if downloaded just acts as a viewer only.
