Raymarine 3 Pin Power Plug Wiring?

Hi All,

Does anyone have a diagram that shows which of the pins is live and which two are negative/ground on the Raymarine 3 pin power plug fitted to such units as the es75, es78 and I believe similar on others?

Got the unit at home and want to power it up from a 12v source to check the maps... the original cable is on the boat 280 miles away!

Anyone? Can anyone unplug theirs and put a multimeter across the live terminals?? (big favour I know, but it'll save me £50 for a new one or 560 mile round trip!)

Have you tried phoning Raymarine?

Have you tried an ohmmeter on the three contacts and and between the contacts and a metal point on the chassis?

I have looked and looked and there are no diagrams that I can find that show the polarity of each pin... I've been told it's possibly the same as a DIN plug, but I don't want to risk it for a 50/50 chance of wrecking it!

Yes, the top two appear to be + and -, bottom one ground, but I have no way of knowing which one is + & -, so it's a 50/50 shot.

I'd imagine the plotter is polarity protected, so it'll presumably only work one way round.

I'm sure that PVB is correct but I'd probably start by putting 6V across it rather than 12V. You might well find that you get a flicker of life one way and nothing the other.

Good thinking... I've got a little transformer that only pumps out 300mA, so will set that to 6V and go from there... Have discovered which pin is connected to the chassis and it's not the one I thought!

FYI, I took a chance and cranked it up from 6-9-12V. It didn't do anything bad even wrongly connected... Nor did it do anything at all until I got to 12V.

Have now powered it up, connected the iPad, realised it's an awesome tool, updated the maps and am just about to play about with waypoints and things... Marvellous as SWMBO is out and I'm not a football fan...
