My boat came with no water pump as it was removed, buying new would cost me 500 if I add another 700 I could get a new engine! The question is, I got two jabsco water pumps which can pump more water through than the original pump can! Bit I made adapter to make sure my pumps are working and pumping, bit they pump through more water than original should, can this cause any problem to my engine ? Only people who understand are welcome to reply! Pls no guesses! Thanks

The problem might be that the engine is running at too low a temperature, and that leads to poor combustion and wear.

Are you pumping sea water with pumps designed for fresh ? I am not sure that Jabsco FW pumps are designed for continuous operation e.g. for an hour or two.

What make and model is the engine please ?

My father, a life time steam engineer ,said you can restrict the output of an impeller pump, with no problems, but if you restrict the input side, it eats impellers quickly .

The raw water pump also needs to be matched to the exhaust gas volume. Too much raw water could lead to flooding the exhaust system and choking the engine... or even worse causing a hydraulic blockage backing up to the engone itself.

PS Sorry, but I don't know how to calculate such things.
