Raw water pump as emergency pump

The influx figure is based on a 1.25" hole caused by a thru-hull breaking off or a seacock being left open.

You'd select the appropriate size of thru-hull, seacock and raw water strainer for the capacity of the engine water pump. No point reducing, for instance, a 2" seacock down to a .75" pump inlet pipe if you don't need to.

I'm all for keeping the size and number of holes in the boat to a minimum. If I were doing a refit again I'd use manifolds (sea chests) to minimize the number of inlets and outlets.
