Rathlin to Campbeltown, tidally tricky

We were there last Wednesday. One of the boats was a Nauticat 40 which berthed on the landward side of the first short pontoon. He, as far as he is aware, didn’t touch the bottom and draws almost 2m. The other boat in our company, a Moody 30, drawing 1.7m berthed on the same pontoon and also reported no problems. I was on the middle pontoon and also was fine. I draw 1.75m.

Finally made it! Mid, neap tide arrival with about half a metre under the keel. Followed almost identical chart-plotted route as per last week (spring) when we touched. It’s 10 years since my last visit and I have very fond memories for very personal reasons.

Great hospitality and warm welcome at Lough Foyle, too.

Lovely cruising grounds.
