Hi all,

Now that Alisdair Gurney has taken care of business with getting OpenCPN to run on the Raspberry Pi, I want to install one inside as a navigation computer, connected to a mouse-type GPS. There was a thread that PRV contributed to that explained the power approach for the GPS, and another for the Raspberry Pi. Following the forum update, I can't, of course, fine either. However...

Can anyone suggest what I could use for a cheap yet decent (ish) screen? I'm not too worried about size - I'm more worried about cost and to some extent power requirements. 7 inch reversing screen seem like one possibility at the moment, though their resolution is pretty poor.

Any thoughts?
Cheers

This one for the 5v GPS mousey thingy?
The pi is easy: A 12v to micro-usb car phone charger thing should work, although if you're going to be powering a bunch of usb devices too you do need to check what kind of power it can put out.

I have a samsung SA300. But don't do that , you'll need to splash out on a VGA/HMDI convertor as well. :) It's not quite there with opencpn and the Pi yet anyway, hopefully close. Another possibly interesting option would be a Pi with a wifi dongle which you control using a tablet, I haven't tried that yet but shouldn't be too difficult.

I'm still using the one I described here:

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?331320-Raspberry-Pi-ers-turbo&p=3760586#post3760586

The display is clear and bright, and it takes hdmi from the pi as well as RGB from a laptop.

It's a 12v touch screen model that seems identical to Lilliput models.

The PC touch screen drivers make using openCPN on the extended laptop display a breeze, but I want to reduce laptop use, so my next job is to try and make/find touch screen drivers that work with the Pi ... hopefully using something that can swim better than a wireless mouse :(

oh, and these pocket-sized gizmos are brilliant with the Pi .. http://tinyurl.com/avulkpa (don't know about the seller though)
