Anyone know a way'' experience of' contact number for booking visitor berth at Ramsgate.. main line says no booking.. reluctant to arrive only to be told no space..

I have asked this before and was told they are a safe haven harbour so will not take bookings but by this very nature I assume that you should be able to get a space. By evening it does get very full at times so we tend to try and arrive early on in the day. That said, you should be able to get a space somewhere. We have never had a problem in getting into the place in all the years we have been visiting.

They were inviting bookings a while back - Ramsgate Royal Harbour

I remember visiting around that time as part of a club cruise which had booked spaces but on calling them via VHF was invited to find my own space so not sure it actually had any practical benefit.

If we visit Ramsgit, it's generally leaving W. Mersea first thing in the morning, which means we get there between 1230-1330, and it's always been "choose your berth on (IIRC) H pontoon...

Ramsgate marina and royal harbour. (01843) 572100 Listen to the recorded message and you will hear that they do not take bookings in advance.
They advise you to speak to them on ch 80 when you come in to the harbour for berthing instructions. In other words as I said previously get there early for a good space. Get there late and you will probably have to berth where you can.

Just arrive, I call port control VHF ch 14 to enter and avoid being told off, I'd only ever contact marina office on ch 80 if I couldn't find a space myself, which has never happened yet.

Fenders and lines out both sides, chug round till you find somewhere!

If your boat is huge you could be rafting up on the outer hammerhead as anything over 40ft is a bit big for many of the pontoon berths.

Well that depends on your route LG!

Recalling the impact running out of fair tide by South Foreland had on our time to go when on passage between the Orwell and Dover I suspect only a masochist would set off from the Channel ports with it running against them!

The sound of the clock by the tidal basin chiming pub closing time as we approached our berth haunts me to this day :)

Our club booked 5 boats all in adjoining berths 2 weeks ago
The Royal Thames YC went out of its way to provide SD tables on the veranda & stayed open an extra hour for us to drink & try out a variety of gins. But only one draught lager. Their commodore is a most delightful & entertaing chap who managed to fleece us of our drinking whip quite handsomely.
The Itallian restaurant underneath was a great disappointment compared to its usual form
