Just wondered if anyone could give any tips for best route from Ramsgate to Wallasea island please. Don't want to ruffle any feathers with London VTS. crossing estuary. Motor boat 1.3 metre draft. Thanks.

Various route suggested on the definitive Thames Estuary website http://www.crossingthethamesestuary.com/page2.html
look in downloads for the waypoints across the SW Sunk.

If you fancied something different you could head up the Thames a bit and come through the Havengore Bridge near HW and follow the Roach and the Crouch to Wallasea. Very nice route and with your draft then you should have several feet to spare.

You'd do well to invest in a copy of East Coast Pilot.

For your route, I'd recommend Foulger's Gat across Long Sand then across the Sunk Sand through the gat near Barrow no. 2 port hand buoy - there's a chartlet for this on Roger Gaspar's Crossing the Thames Estuary website.

I will plot it on chart to see how it looks. Thanks for advice.

Personally I would recommend Fisherman's Gat, then through the SW Sunk swatchway; it's more direct than using Foulger's Gat. Using Foulger's, the London Array would like you to call up one of their craft. There are some works and diving adjacent but off Foulger's. Whilst I haven't re-surveyed the SW Sunk this season yet, several forumites have confirmed that the coordinates on my web site are fine.

Much appreciated. Good to get a bit of local advice. Thanks.

Have you noticed my download on http://www.crossingthethamesestuary.com/page29.html . It's the third chartlet down - you can download any you want. Note and please use the recommended waypoints which are enclosed on the chartlet. Have a good time. (Oh the valuable point you raised on London VTS, at the junction of Fisherman's Gat and the Black Deep obviously note any shipping and let them pass. They will be big and quick. Ships coming out of the London River on the Black Deep might do a right to turn down Fisherman's. There is ample room for you to stay clear (and should) as it is quite a tight turn for the big stuff. HMS Hermes did that last year or the year before.
