Raising a Waterline

Kandoma
Our club boson (ex RN - HMS Britainia) does it exactly how you described. Tape on the bows and walk aft - works everytime, perfectly (the swine).
I've seen him run a waterline round a 35' yacht in less than 5 mins. I must admit I've tried it and it isn't quite as easy as he makes it look.

I've only seen him do that a couple of times and all he did was to let the tape touch the post - or fit an extra (temp) strut and lower the main cradle strut. He still stood outside the line and just run the tape onto the hull.

Watching him is definately one of those times when you hate watching someone that can do a job in 5 mins that takes any other mortal 1/2 a day.

We have a couple of 22 footer club boats and he once said to me "go and get the anti fouling and roller while I put the water line on". By the time I got back he was kicking his heals - waterline was on and I'd only been gone 5 mins.

Gezzs I can get to hate people like that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have to do mine soon, but with the overhang at the stern I don't think I can get away with the tape trick. Depending where it ends up in the boatyard there may not be any room to use a laser either.

My proposed solution is to get a block of polystyrene and tape a marker pen to it at the right height. Calm day, float it round the boat, use a steel rule to join the dots in a smooth curve, hey presto?
