My first boat was outboard powered and was always tilted when not in use. Thats unfortunately what they are designed to do. Many Outboards just turn to metal paste if left in the water.
Lets face it if we could somehow lift our entire sterndrives or our propshafts clear of the water when not in use we would do that too. Would save alot of maintenance.

If you turn the guys boat around then you stand the risk of the the outboard overhanging the pontoon and smacking little children in the head.. The same issue as people allowing their anchors to overhang pontoons.

At the end of the day there are often hazards like this to avoid.. Dinghy davits etc All adds to the 'joy' of mooring..

If it makes you feel any better i moor next to a sailing cat so the space is pretty minimal and my single sterndrive, when in reverse either turns one way or straight but not the other..

rgds,

Nick
