Opinions please. Prices seem better at Licata but it has a reputation for fouling and as far as I can judge no lift out? How do the towns compare? Access to airports?

Licata , You can get lifted out, there at less two yards maybe three , but if not cheap , I think there where asking well over a 1000 E , in my view the fouling is very bad , some will tell you different , but in my view when a boats can't move under it own power and have to be towed I would call that bad ,
There is a diver who will clear the bottoms of boat for a fee I think it 150 E the marina it safe in all weather , there is a chandlers in the marina and two other chandlers five min walk for the marina , the chandlers in the marina will give you a big discount on parts but we found every time even with the discount the chandlers out of the marina where cheaper , there buses to all three airports from Licata town and last year the marina would take you to the bus station .
Nice old town , people friendly ,
Ragusa , nice and safe Marina , in an Easterly blow it really isn't safe to enter or leave as it a bit on the shallow side and open to the East , no fouling problems , small town but you can get almost every thing , good chandlers in the marina And in the town , busses to Ragusa City and the airports , The marina would take you and pick you up from Comiso airport free , shower and toilets are a bit of a walk but alway clear and plenty of hot water , there two rooms that can be use by everyone .
Both marina will do winter deals , last year Licata was the cheaper one .
We have used both marina , because of the fouling problem and we found the staff a lot more helpful and friendly if we had to go back it would be Ragusa .

For me the fact that Licata has heavy fouling, and that Ragusa has little fouling due to fresh water springs emerging in harbour, is decisive.
However I did find one of the Ragusa staff a bit tense and shouty esp when asked about missing wifi!! But to be fair she's not the responsible techie, just doing the charging!
But then I have the same effect on the reception staff at my doctor's. Can't think what it is, maybe expecting polite service!!
Mind you I remember getting pretty tense myself when smokers asked me to clean their teeth or complained about their coughs!!

Licata on my mind!!! Very friendly staff, very good provisions after two minutes walk...Lovely town, nice people, also among sailors...what more You wish? Fouling, yes, but You may move your boat from time to time...Don´t You? We spend last Winter in Licata, and we certainly plan to go there in future.
To all Sicilian airports there is connection, so, there should be no problem.
So have a good time there...we will come soon.

Have a lovely time in Ragusa...just remember, there is NO old town, only Hibla in Ragusa Town, where You have to go by bus...
We enjoyed very much warm shower blocks, instead of Ragusa marinas kind of "military" showers, with walls open to windy air around.
But in Ragusa You will find good restaurant close to marina...although without romantic atmosphere, as tiny café in Licata marina. Hope You will find Ragusa okey.

Broadly go along with Vic's comments, last year the fouling was bad in Licata. I've not stayed in Ragusa but have visited by car; for me the town facilities, local entertainment and access to Catania (6 buses a day direct) of Licata are still the winning combination.
