Raging weed ?

Has any of our Clyde based forumites heard anything about the raging weed which apparantly is causing some concerns from loch Ryan to loch Fyne.
I took my yamaha aux o,b to my boat at Fairlie about three or four wks ago, its leg has been submerged since, as it has an annode on it. I was out yesterday and couldent believe the growth of weed on it, a kind of green grassy weed which is about eight inches long, also my hull has two to three inches of the stuff along its intire length, and that is only in the last three wks as it wasent there the last time I was down.
Any views?
 
The Crouch, that well known tributary of the Clyde, is suffering similarly. My sleek racing boat was scrubbed 2 saturdays ago, and now has growth 3 inches long streaming aft. It is fine and long, and does not just brush off.
Its war.
 
I read somewhere recently about it but cannot remember the link.

It's some foreign stuff which is "invading" much to the dismay of just about everyone. It Bu**ers up shellfish beds, fishfarms and deposes all the natural local weed. If I remember the article I'll post a link.

It covers boats as well. BTW.
 
I think we have it or something like it here in Chi Harbour too. I left my dinghy (which normally lives ashore so has no A/F) on the mooring for 4 weeks and on my return found it had grown a 15cm fringe of weed. Never seen anything like that before round here. The usual 'grass' takes a couple of months to grow half that length.
 
Left my boat on a buoy on the Crouch for 17 days and when I got back there was a beard of about 7 cm long bright green weed growing around the waterline and in some places under the boat. So far we do not seem to have anything like it on the south coast.
 
Time (and justification?) to start using TBT again?

Thanks - your pasted version looks fine, but my original still contains the mark-up codes and the full text of the URL, so the system, I guess, is smart enough to tell the difference between a poster and a postee. But why, I wonder? Italics show without the mark-up codes.

Well Roger,
its actually a free tin of XM that my yard gave me as a sweetener. This was applied 8 weeks ago, and I had to take the boat onto the beach the first day of Burnham week as it was 6 inches long, and it took 6 of us 4 hours to get it off. I also broke the fish slice on the barnacles.

So, Mr PLASTIMO XM step forward and take a bow.
