Oo er.... I've never been in here before.... :)

Good evening all, may I seek your advice please? I have a work colleague who has a 15ft Fletcher Arrowflash (he tells me!) with a 75hp Mercury and trailer. With very young twins, there's no chance of him getting it afloat again in the foreseeable future and he's asked my advice as to how to go about selling it. Now I know my way around buying and selling sailing boats, but I know nothing about motor boats. Would any broker handling motor boats take it on? Are there websites and/or brokers specialising in small craft like that? Is it best to use a broker or try with a private ad and if so, where? He doesn't want to use a well known internet auction house or something like Gumtree. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

The boat is garage stored at his home in Hampshire if location helps at all.

Many thanks in anticipation.

There is a Fletcher owners club, maybe try there. At the same time I'd put a classified ad on eBay. Can't imagine that any broker will be interested, I'm guessing the value will be £2K or less, so not worth their while.

+1 for Ebay classified ad, but be ready for time wasters. Most would want to see the engine run, some will want a sea trial, but do not allow this unless they have stumped up at least 10% deposit from which you would deduct cost of a sea trial if they pulled out.

The RYA standard form of sale is as appropriate for a small speedboat around #3 - 5k as it is for a much more expensive boat.

Ebay classified ad will cost him. £15.00 for 30 days.
Good idea of whats its worth from other boats on the site.
First contact by email, to obtain phone no and then strictly cash on collection.
No Paypal involved.
Sold as seen.

Forgot to mention that if you use EBAY avoid the 'Best offer' option on a Classified ad - they keep it quiet that their normal sale fees apply (10% + Paypal) if it goes on a 'Best offer', even from a Classified.

Just done this and went with a number of web based services including writing my own site. By a large margin boatshop24 ad with a cross link to my site had the best response.

No, I stuck to specialist sites for boats. Used ybw classified, Hardy owners club and one other of the boaty ones but can't remember which one. Boat was in the £40-50k bracket

If he is Hampshire, Jaykay Marine is on Hayling Island and broker boats down to any size, if he wants to go that route......but I have sold through ebay and Boatmad before now.....
