Sat downstairs minding me own business then there is a terific crash, boat shook, I thought we'd come untied, drifted and hit something but no. twas a raggie that got to close apparently going a quite a lick, his shrouds caught on one davit extension with his shrouds and put a tidy bend on it.

To be fair the raggie came round to apologise and said he'd cough up for the repair.

Metal basher having a look at it.

Ian

Think so

to be honest it only the extension that's been bent, the main strut is ok. so I'm not quite the fully new davit club member that HLB is.

Ian

Certainly is!!

Bad luck. This is becoming an epidemic!

and it's a PITA, I have to research and carry out the repair, I know the guy offered to pay for the damage, asked would it be an insurance claim etc.. then he said what do we do,, so like a twit I said I'd get it sorted and get a quote and present it to him.

I'm starting to wonder if I should have just said you bent it you mend it!

It's safer to say it the way you did then you get it done your way and to your satisfaction.

Well it cost nearly 4 grand to mend mine and I'm still £250 quid down on the excess.

What sort of davits you got. I might have the spare part.

If the metal basher can't straighten the extension then it'll be a new arm

Perfectly good Whittall davit arm here. 85 Kg I think.

Thanks for that sadly I doubt the extension bit woul fit into the simpson main arm.

As I said before. It takes nine months to make a baby and three years to make an eliphant.:)

Maybe later this week.

Promise to hoist on day of arrival and will post a pic

Ian

You're right

Seriously, contact Simpson and get a new bit, or at least a price. No reason why you should suffer.

The metal basher is going to give it a go then see what his cost is to make a new one (oh I wonder what the conclusion will be!!) so he makes a new one and I give the bill to the raggie.. The route of going to simpson may well be "oh that the old model sir" etc..... may be more painful!!

Ian

thats what we did, but it took months, and a load of aggrevation. Better for all the raggie didn't do it. why, oh, why go that fast BACKWARDS.
