Evening all. Our newly acquired S38 is due to be collected on Wednesday and deliverde to her new berth on Thursday. The transport company have asked us to ensure the Radome is removed due to height. The radome is a Raymarine unit fitted by Sealine at point of manufacture, and fixed directly to the radar arch, i.e. not on a stainless arch.

Does anyone know:

1. How easy or difficult it will be to remove (as asking the boatyard to do it for me)
2. Whether there will likely be enough cable to fix it underneath the arch with padding and cable ties during transport

Any other words of wisdom will be greatly received to ensure it remains safe and works again when re-affixed at the home end.

Thanks.

I had my S37 transported to the south of France without need for the radome to be removed. The S38 may be a little taller but worth talking to the transport company to find out exactly what the height problem is. They may be playing it extra extra safe which may not be necessary.

I've an S37 and the arch points the other way, but I expect it to be similar.

1. Very easy. Bolts accessible from the canopy srorage area.
2. No. And do not let them cut the cable.
Take the lid off the randome, the 12V bit of the cable needs a small screwdriver to remove from the terminals, the data is a pull off plug.

Simple!

Don't forget threadlock on the bolts when reffitting.

An S38 is one of the (very small) lsit of boats I'd consider upgrading to - enjoy!

Thanks both. Voiced my concern to the tranmsport company tonight who said with Radome left in place it would take the overall height above 16'3" which apprently is a height the police are not too happy about. Taking it off will reduce it to below 16' making Mr Plod much happier.

Elessar - we are hugely excited about getting her. Only our 3rd boat. First was a Mxum 2400, then a Fairline Targa 30 which we sold a few weeks back after just 6 months ownership (too small) and was going to go for an S34 but decided we would outgrow that too quickly being just 3 foot longer than the T30. Then found this S38 and did a deal at S34 price so was no contest.
