Radio licence rip-off

I can beat that, mines the 27th (have I mentioned that to anyone before? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif), anyone got the 28th,29th or 30th? Mines lapsing for 3 days and then I will get a new free one - all online applications are free. Latest info from Ofcom here.

Can those who are whinging about the whingers and obviously aren't bothered about wasting £20 please send any unwanted £20 notes to me please /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
 
My Brain is starting to hurt!!!

I've never known a single subject to be discussed so much when HMG are trying to make a system easier and cheaper - that's got to be a first!

There is definitely confusion over what is going to happen as Ofcom seem to have shifted position.

1. The October date is now uncertain.
2. I thought the £20 also applied to any "new" licence issued after 1/10 - one off payment.
3. The £20 was to stop people making multiple free applications and jamming the system up.
4. That you can only renew your own licence for free after 1/10.

Questions that need answering.
1. Whats to stop me renewing someone else's licence.
2. Whats to stop the whole Internet world applying for a free licence.
3. When an applicant applies for a licence will the Ofcom 'putor check the address against a data base to see if one has been issued already?
4. How am I going to renew this licence? If I see a boat in a marina can I go online in the guise of licence renewal then get all types of personal info like licensee's address telephone contact number etc.

I don't know the answers - but I wish someone from Ofcom would come in here and tell us.

I am confused as I had a "favourite" leading to the page with the fee payable to renew after 1/10 etc. Later when I needed it on a thread some time ago - bang it was not there anymore ....

I for one am waiting to see what happens when it happens ... so much talk and no-one I think has the 100% answer ... like so many govt things - the wording is supposed to clear it up - but in fact makes it worse !!

I bet if anyone actuallyu gave them a simple list of questions to clear away a lot of confusion - we'd end up with different set of questions and confusion .....
