Radio found in locker

A Lowe HF 150 Communications receiver which looks to be in excellent condition.

Is it worth connecting it up to a power supply and aerial ? What does it DO ?

Any radio experts in the Thames area able to give me some advice on setting up the boat for UK cruising, as I am removing all the old kit please ? I need to know courses, licences, whip aerials, backstay aerials......

Might be interested in buying it if you want rid of..It's a ham transistor radio for 0 - 30 Mhz, I think its 12 V remember it from the 80's - 90s may have FM but I think it was SSB, good for the Voice of america and so forth!!

Don't even THINK about seling it!!! It's the 'Rolls Royce' of HF receivers and will give you superb Weatherfaxes and RTTY when connected to a laptop as well as the Beeb World Service. And all this anywhere in the world.

Download the free JVComm32 software for weatherfaxes and the free MMTTY software for RTTY and you're away!

We have an Icom 706 MkII transceiver, but still keep our Lowe 150 as a back up because of it's truly excellent quality of sound and ability to pick up even very weak radio signals.

A simple wire wound round the backstay will give you most of the above, though you could go for a more sophisticated aerial if this is not sufficient.
