Hi Do you think that one of those devices found on car dashboards could be of any use
I think they have a range of up to 3 miles?

I guess you mean to use it as a detector for other ships radar....bought one with the same idea.....silly me. if I,d thought about it a little more would have realized they are cheap and if they did work that way they would also be sold in marine stores. but they ain,t....actual yachty type radar detectors are very expensive for what you get....

Hi Why did it not work? They are designed to report the presence of Radar.
That should be a useful aid to a single handed sailor. And it may be that cheap ones are sold in marine stores, as expensive ones!!!

Is that some kind of attempt at a slur? Well anyway, police speed trap radars work on different frequencies to ships radars, plus you might know theres radar about, but where and how far away, so in fog say, which way will you turn to avoid this threat? Boat radar detectors, normally tell you from what direction the radar is being transmitted from, also due to it's design, some idea of the range, but why am I explaining this to you who are obviously of such superior intellect, sorry, got ideas above my station.
