Last time I cruised seriously was 30 years ago, I am just about ready to buy a new cruiser and start again. All the new technology leaves me with a couple of questions to which I have been unable to find answers: 1) Can any make of radar scanner interfaces with ANY radar display (eg. Garmin scanner and B&G radar screen), if not generally, are there any which are swappable? 2) If the answer to question 1 is YES, can a scanner feed a PC display given the correct software?
3) I am aware that it is possible to overlay radar displays with chart displays but is it possible to overlay with Google earth?
TIA

No; some scanners are compatible with several instruments from the same manufacturer but on the whole I found that the scanner is specific to the instrument. You can sometimes get secondhand instruments but the problem is getting the right scanner for it.

No bg. All bad news i'm afraid. Each manufacturers radome works with their displays only (and even then not every radome will go with every display). A rodome can feed a PC directly (eg. Nobeltec) but it has to be a specific radome designed for this. You can also network certain radar displays with a PC (eg. Furuno) but you need both the radar display and PC (my set-up).
