The Two Faces of Yachting

When I suffered equipment failure Harken UK and Marechal Masts immediately dispatched replacement parts and an apology for the inconvenience. On the other hand when my radar fell off the mast while sailing along in a calm sea Scanstrut declared that it had been knocked off by external forces and was not their responsibility. Quite what could knock it off at sea 15m up a mast is beyond me. You don’t need three guesses as to whose equipment I would purchase again and whose I would not

The other face...

And in complete contrast, when I fitted a Scanstrut modular pole system for my radar, I found that the rail-mounted bracket wasn't the right choice, and needed a deck strut instead. Scanstrut couldn't have been more helpful - they despatched a deck strut to me free of charge and asked me just to return the rail mount when I'd finished the job. So I'd definitely choose Scanstrut again.

In further contrast, I designed, made and fitted my radar mount, and when it goes wrong I am going to kick the manufacturer all the way to the pub.

I would have bought Scanstrut, but I couldn't stop weeping at the prices long off to write the cheque. No wonder they can afford to despatch kit on appro. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, 15m up the mast is a long way, what boat have you got?
