After 5 years of non use ominous noises from the antenna, I presume a bit of creaking in the works as the antenna rotates in the dome.

Question? should I ignore and allow it to free itself out, or should I send someone up the mast with a can of silicone/wd 40. drill a tiny hole in casing, spray it in.

It appears to function fine but in a yard with surrounding hills so difficult to be sure.

Regards.

the wave guide is usually driven by a toothed drive band. It could be drying out or just crunching dead spiders. Easy enough to take the cover off and have a look. Spraying WD40 or similar might do nasty things to the electronics.

Or just a gear drive that needs greasing. make sure it is turned off until the greaser is back on deck!!!

Be careful not to drop the dome as they break and are often difficult to find cheap replacements.
