Hi

I have recently bought a second hand Birchwood TS37 but there doesn't appear to be a support for the Radar Arch when its lowered. Can anyone tell me what this unit would look like so I could possibly get one manufactured.

Many thanks

Glen

Its just to hold the Arch in the lowered position when going under low bridges, yes a piece of wood would do the job, but I was wondering what the official tool looked like.

Any current or previous Birchwood 37 owners here ?

hi i have a brichwood ts37 flybridge and mine also does not have a support for radar arch however i am in the process of designing a set of rams to raise and lower it as its pain on the thames to keep putting it up and down by hand so if comes across any supports will let you know

Thanks, I would be interested to hear how you get on with your design. Until I bought the boat I didn't realise how many low bridges there are on the Thames, suppose I should have done a bit more research, however its a nice boat and probably would have bought it anyway.

The 'design' of the arch support on my Turbo 36 looks remarkably like a broom handle with a plastic U shaped fitting screwed on one end. The U sits around one if the horizontal stainless tube sections, the other end wedges in against the after cabin deck hatch edge.

The problem I do have is that as soon as I mention I'm going to lower the 'Arch', our dog Archie appears and always manages to get right in the way !

We were on the Thames for a year with our TS37. There was no 'proper' stay so we used a wooden broom handle and it worked perfectly. Our arch supported a Raymarine radome, a Glomex TV aerial, a Sea Me and the GPS aerial with no problems. however I did drop 2 of the arch bolt overboard!

PS I'm curious to know the name of your Birchwood. Mine was sold back on the Thames in 2011 and again this year I think. D?oes it have Volvo D6's

Many thanks for your comments.

No, my boat has the original BMW Mercruiser engines ... and before anyone comments, I am assured by PH Marine they are good engines and spares are still available !! I must admit they do sound nice at just above 1000 RPM, anyway that's another story.

I did have a chromed 'strut' approximately 1" in diameter with a bend at one end, that fitted a chrome receptacle fitted to the Radar Arch. I don't know if this was original or made up as it was only about 3 ft long, not long enough for the purpose - however due to a spot of madness, I inadvertently dropped it over the side in 5 ft of water. Stupidly, I did go into the water to try and find it with my feet, but couldn't locate it. This was my first unsupervised trip out on the boat taking it to its new home at Penton Hook

With the previous comment in mind, I now plan to manufacture a support in wood, so if I do something stupid like that again, hopefully it will float.
