Radar arch question

We've had a raydome fitted but had to remove the steaming/anchor light in the process. The solution appears to be to mount the light on a s/s arch mounted over the dome (itself fitted on the grp arch). My question is, will the proposed arch interfere with the radar operation?

I have a radar unit with a stainless steel hoop over for the steaming/anchor light. The hoop has no effect on the radar operation

Wrong.

The arch will affect the radiation pattern. This will have an affect, whether you can measure it or not.

I am no expert my mine seems ok- check out the configuration on the arch- is this what you mean GG?

You may not need an arch straddling the dome as such, just a thin-ish SS stalk suitably shaped to the rear of the dome. That is what my P32 has and the Radar works fine.

Hmm, I've seen a frame-like jobbie on a boat in the marina which was my first thought. Having said that - it'd probably look like I'd been robbed if there was just one lonely light mounted on it!

The more I look into it the more I think I need a longer s/s pole with a dog-leg in it, possibly like Mike K's, although his pic gets a bit fuzzy when I enlarge it to view the detail. Can anyone recommend a supplier?

It doesn't appear to affect yachts when the radome is mounted in front of a large metal mast. They still have radar "view" to the rear although some yachts prefer to have the scanner mounted on the spreaders but then they would move the percieved shadow to one side. I dont believe that aluminium is any more or less impervious to microwaves that stainless steel.
