hi, how do i change a filter when the engine is running?

there is a lever at top that is straight up. this can move to the left or the right.

so if i want to change the left filter, to which side do i put the lever?

thanks

lots of Racor filters have a drain tap at the bottom. If you have one, can you ease it open and then move the lever to the R and then L. See what happens ?

In any case, I guess that both R and L movements will shut off the fuel flow, if the fuel is ON with the tap vertical.

my guess would be that the arm will lay on the filter that is in use but I would ask ASAP or another supplier unless a definitive answer appears on here. Why do you run with the leaver in the vertical position, presumably with both filters in use? I would have thought that this negates the key benefit of this system which is to have a clean reserve filter instantly available should the primary filter become blocked.

moonfire - also a good point, that's the way it came when bought boat. the instructions i found on the web say "move the lever" but not which way. will speak to ASAP.

cheers for your help

my re-think. ONE lever above the two filters ? or one lever above each filter.

If it's one lever only, then the lever would logically go

L for L filter
R for R filter
UP for both

Have you got a pic ?

there is a pic (not very clear!) at bottom of my first post... one silver lever above the two filters

phoned asap, they don't know

i think seeing which filter still has fuel flow by opening draip tap at the bottom is the best way to find out.

asap phoned back, the lever moves toward the one in use. the lever should not be in the middle for normal use. they are very helpful!

cheers for all your help
