Racor filtration.....

I don't understand. The throughput capacity of the 500FG is so huge compared to a typical sailing boat engine that the capacity must be an order of magnitude oversized.

I'm sure you could find something suitably specified for twin V8 behemoths but I'm sure that is not necessary.

The flow is high enough for most yachts I'm sure. But the element is small so its dirt holding capacity limited.

The surface area of the filter medium in any filtration system is aligned with the maximum designated flow rate. A diesel engine filtration system which is designed for high flow rates will not have a limited holding capacity.

If you really want a diesel filter with a greater holding capacity than the 500FG, then I suspect that you will be looking at some seriously expensive multi-unit kit.

The Racor 500 series has their Patented - now expired - 'turbine' flow system where water droplets and large particles end up in the clear bowl. These are not held on the screen paper, but separated. These are easily cleared by regularly draining the clear bowl. The elements are of average size for the fuel flow requirements. The only time it has been a problem for me was clearing the black dust left by dead diesel bug on the sides of our 900 litre tank. The only access to the interior was through a 38mm hole housing the mechanical fuel gauge. This made it impossible to clean the tank walls and the splashing while at sea washed the bug off, the racor elements catching it. In 560 NM's I changed seven plus two engine filters. £200 Quids worth!

The 'Racor knock offs' are not really knock offs as the Racor Patent has long expired and the technology is free for anyone to use.

Even if the turbo flow was not a feature worth having within such a design, for boating use the ease of replacement and cleanliness when doing so compared to the antique CAV type is worth it alone.

The addition of a cheap Facet type electic fuel pump makes for easy and trouble free bleeding after filter changes too.

Dont forget that even a 1GM10 Yanmar which uses just the smell of diesel to work still shovels ten times that amount around the system while pumping to the injector pump and then returning what is not required back to the tank.

A high flow capacity is a good thing.
