I am thinking about fitting racor 500 fg30 turbine fuel filters to my cranchi zaffiro 34 vp d4s and doing away with the standard metal original ones has any body use them and are they the same pipe size and thread as the cranchi standard ones any help appreciated

The Racors are great filters, but the Chinese copies available on Ebay are IMHO as effective and half the cost. The thread sizes can easily be adapted to suit your original pie sizes and connectors. The tricky part is identifying the thread size as BSP fittings are measured by the pipe bore, not the directly measurable parts of the fittings. Metric pipe sizes further complicate the measurements.

There was a UK seller, but I can't find them, and as Racor ae much more prevalent on Ebay now I wouldn't be surprised if they have stopped them offering the chinese as a Racor. This is similar direct from China Ebay 201232324278.

I recently purchased a RACOR from www.asap-supplies.com/marine, from memory there were no hose tails in the kit, just the filter housing and female threaded bore. I found the guys at Moody's in Swanick very helpful, they sorted me out with a couple of 8mm hose tails and two adapters for the differing threads.

Racor 500FG in front of common rail Volvo Penta D4's is madness.

Maximum hp for these things is about 120 hp forget the data sheets, these filters do not comply with industry standard filter Beta ratings.

Either fit 900FG or forget the whole exercise!

Hi Latestarter,
Just read your words with great consternation - my 155hp Nanni (Toyota 1KZ) has a volvo badged Racor 500 primary filter. The flow rate for these filters I believe is circa 220 odd litres per hour (if memory serves).
Could you tell me more about the 120hp bit?

Thanks

Paul

The Chinese copies are horrible. I ordered two and sent them back. They are badly engineered with poorly machined o ring grooves and threads on the T handle and a bodge of an o ring seal top and bottom of the filter element. The plastic turbines were so badly moulded that they still had plastic slag on them and were stiff to turn as well. The supposedly straight hosetails supplied with mine came out of the filter at about 25degs. Yep, just checked the eBay listing and them's the ones.

The ones I have bought in the past were excellent made by Headman / Rongsun. Perhaps the same perhaps not, but most stuff coming out of China now is well made.
