Hello all,

I went ahead and bout two new Racors to replace my Separs. Have to say for 100 quid each (new old stock) I am chuffed. See through bowls and heater elements fitted.

I now have a plumbing query. To use the existing lines I have had to create an elbow using a Racor 3/4 UNF to 3/8BSP adapter and a 10mm compression to 3/8" BSP bend. I now have a problem getting the adapter to seal on the unit. When I tighten the fitting in the filter housing it goes past twelve o' clock/vertical.

Current plumbing:

New filter and elbows:

Adapter:

There is a nitrile washer on the end of the adapter that joins the housing and this is where the leak would be. I see that I have three options:

1) A wider washer (if it exists)
2) A load of PTFE and no washer
3) A load of thread sealant and no washer

Thoughts?

Is it the top thread that leaks

I would keeping the sealing O ring but smother the thread and O ring with Loctite 577 then do up until it is almost at its fully tight position but in the orientation you require. Loctite 577 will set to a semi hard gel and should provide an effective seal.

You mention it has a heater - are you sure ? Some have a water detector fitting.

Looks like a heater superheat - the water sensor goes in the black blanking plug in the bottom of the glass bowl.

Unusual, admittedly..
Interesting. How many wires are there ? I wonder if it might be a flow detector.

Parker website does mention a vacuum sensor, but that is an externally screwed in probe, and is a simple switch so wouldn't be a specific voltage.

Do you have the specific Racor model number as I am intrigued ?
