R.K.J\'s 310 and the \'we\'

First well done Sir Robin 314 NM in 24hrs.... But have you noticed how many single-handed sailors said, for exsample; "WE sail at speed..." or "WE had some rough weather yesterday.." You never hear a lone driver say "We got overtaken by a lorry on the motorway" Strange that! Can anyone think of a similar situations where the (not the royal) WE is used??
It also seems he's been watering down his whisky to much!

I single hand a lot, and its always "we" - maybe its all the talking to the boat one does in the absence of real people !!

It would be extremely presumptuous of a singlehander to suggest that he achieves anything by himself (well...). Everything is a partnerhsip. I wouldn't risk saying 'I' and upsetting the boat - no telling what she might to in revenge /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You may be singlehanded but you are certainly not alone. Given the v. distinct personality of boats it is definitely a case of 'we' and 'she' won't let you forget it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In this day and age a sinlge handed sailor racer is not alone, IT has taken care of that, as I am sure Sir Robin would agree the differance between his first single handed race and this must be the differance between a drive in the country and a GP motor race, I am sure that both races took and take a great deal of courage and stamina far more than I am sure I possess good luck to the man and what ever he wishes to expess him self.
