I was just wondering if anyone has had one of these fail. How did the fail safe feature perform.

Just wondering how many hours to run it. I thought I'd seen 1000 reccomended by tbe manufacturer somewhere but there's minimal misalignment it's up to about 1400 now and still looks like new.

If they are aligned within the tolerance then there is almost nothing to go wrong with them.
If badly out of tolerance there will be a flexing effect, but I think that will show and cause failures in other areas such as shaft seal, cutless bearing, shaft ware and engine mounts.

No such thing as no misalignment but it's set up well within the usual tolerances. Of course there will be misalignment during operation due to torque and g forces when motoring in a seaway which is what it's designed for. Just trying to get an idea of typical practical in service life from users and how it may fail.

I re-engined and accidentally bought a 1" one instead of a 25mm. Tightening it marked it, but though unused it couldn't be taken back. Advertised here on forum.

Good piece of equipment. If shaft slides easily in/out, you are very near alignment. I had to cut my old vetus coupling off shaft and had problems with it. The R&D one is much easier to tighten/loosen - quite a simple device.
