'Quiet' VHF transmission problem with good VSWR readings

Well, don't I feel a little silly.... As many suggested, it turns out I was just not holding the microphone close enough. Once I stuck it practically against my chin, I got responses of loud and clear on both mast and stern rails. For a VHF newbie like me though, it really is a little counter intuitive how close you have to hold these noise-cancelling mics.

Thanks to all for the pointers. Hopefully this thread will save someone else's blushes.

hehe we all been there, I once spent a Saturday afternoon trying to repair a CB that would not turn on, sadly I switched on the wrong plug on my workbench and there was no power on the unit. I told myself then that with so many plugs on the bench it was a fair mistake (my dad still laughs his head off about it.) (basic mistake and I was 15  )
Glad you’re sorted.
