Hi,

I'm new to boating and want to buy something I can start with around 30k.

I went to the local marina yesterday and noted a nice looking Quicksilver 705 for sale with Mercury 150 OB.

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of the 705 that they can give me opinions on the boat? Seems to have good facilities for a small boat yet I can't find anything from other owners.

Would be looking to use it for shore fishing and sunny days out with the wife.

Thanks.

Welcome, the Quicksilvers have a good reputation and should be a good boat as long as it's not been damaged. There are a lot around here many came over when the dollar was weak (aka the good old days). For that kind of boat it is all about the outboard. Have it checked carefully. As a backup, I think all Quicksilvers have a place to put a small kicker to be used for trolling or getting you home in an emergency. Good luck

Thanks for the replies, all.

I went to view one today and think it would be great as a starter boat with that split between leisure and a bit fishing. Need to arrange a survey next if I go ahead but also looking to view another one with added extras, which may be a better deal. Will keep informed.

As you are new to this, then do read up on buying a boat..I think YBW.com and RYA also have some info. I only say this as anything to do with boats seems to have a not quite so straight forward approach-so just be clued up on the process before you start making verbal offers etc. You should also check who actually owns the boat..if it is via broker for example just remember he is working for the seller who is paying him, and while he may be 100 pct honest, there are a few who might be more keen on the sale and commission than looking after you.
It might also be a dealer owned boat in which case your legal situation with him is different.
Anyway, no reason for any alarm, but going in informed is less likely to lead to ahhhh...a misunderstanding! We are about to hit the season when everyone suddenly wants a boat...in some ways that is good but it probably means the best ones get sold fast. There are no hard and fast rules for where to pitch a bid...most people expect some discount. Many on here might disagree but I would hazard 5 to 15 pct is worth a punt. In the end it is someone else's boat and your money, so if you can't find some middle ground you aren't going to buy it. That MIGHT mean you end up with second or third best and maybe in some months. Usually the biggest cost of boating is depreciation, so while it is wise to spend a bit more to get the best boat you can, if you overpay you will just lose more when it comes to sell.
Don't be bound by me or anyone else telling you what is the right deal....that is whatever the boat is worth to you, not someone else.
Good hunting.

Just a thought- have you considered / looked at the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 645 or Beneteau Antares 680 both come with a 115hp OB; or even the newer model MF695 which has separate heads.
Good hunting too.

Never underestimate the importance of a toilet door on a boat especially if you want any women to go with you.
The Arvor owners group is another good source of info.
