We're considering upgrading our Oyster 16 to something larger.
The Quicksilver 640 Pilothouse looks good value, but not sure about the quality compared to a Merry Fisher.

Has anyone comparred the two?, what was your opinion?

Thanks in advance

Come and take a look round the Merry Fisher 625 if you're local to Hamble or if you're coming to the southampton boatshow you can easily compare and contrast.

If you'd like to be able to take a good chunk of time looking over a 625 Merry Fisher I can sort that and a sea trial I expect at your convenience, for a fellow forumite /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Don't know anything about the QS but I used to have a MF625 it was dogs nads. I've now moved up the scale to a MF805 I loved the style of boats so much. You won't be disappointed. I'm sure if you search there was a thread about 625s not so long ago on this forum. There are lots of guys on here who run them. Just wait and they'll be along !!

Good luck

QS is built to a price and the MF priced to account for the build. You could look at the ANtares 650 - I have one - which is the same hull as the MF but has a cheaper finish to the interior. The MF/Antares hull is far superior than the QS in a sea as I have experienced all three.

MajorC makes all the relevant points very well.

Only thing I would add is that people put this range of boats to many different uses and there may be even better models for you needs.

Personally at that size I think the 655 is the next evolutionaly development and a step ahead of all other models for the size - but not a lot on the SH market! On the other hand I think the 695 is just discontinued but a real go anywhere boat for the size - I followed one into Alderney last year into a Southerly 6. It had taken us 6 1/2 hours from Poole and this thing had made the trip from Weymouth alone! Very good range of boats and you do get what you pay for.

I dont know the Quicksilver 640.

I bought the MF 625 last year with a 115hp and have been very pleased with it - you get what you pay for. I saw very few second hand and they seem to hold their value well.

We use ours on the Solent and keep it on a trailer - a more economical way of boating both in terms of mooring fees and antifoul etc.

Lastly, we bought from Southern Motorboats who provided a first rate service - in terms of patience when deciding what to buy, handover and aftersales. I would use them again.
