Google not helped much in this case.
Would anyone know of a supplier of Quick Windlass parts please?
Its a Genius G1000 to be specific. I'm after case gasket, main shaft bearing and seal, etc.
Thanks

Bearings and seals are standard parts and usually a lot cheaper from specialist suppliers than from the assembly manufacturer.

+1 I should say.

Bainbridge have a brush kit for 1000W motor on my Quick windlass at the bargain price of £92.87 + Delivery. I examined the brushes last year measured them and re-fitted as they looked perfect. Absolutely nothing special as far as I could see, just normal brushes with a single short wire and tag.

I see that they are the same price here (and there's a picture showing how complicated they are):
http://www.sparesmarine.co.uk/websh...ck-windlass-and-capstan-spares/motor-brushes/

Dimensions: 12.9mm x 8.9mm with length currently around 24.4mm so 25mm would be fine.

I did have a look for some spares but haven't found any yet. I certainly don't intend to pay £100 on off chance I'll need them in a year or two.

I had to replace bearing on my Quick two years ago , being honesty , I found bainbridge a total waste of time , first they never reply to my email , then after my six call to them I give in , ended up buy my bearing for simplybearing , at a very small cost .

I usually try searching on any part numbers marked on item I'm replacing. Mostly successful over the years with bearings, lip seals, brushes, gas struts, engine mounts etc. Somethings are surprisingly easy to find and I've paid £50 instead of £200 or £80 instead of £300 for some things. Well worth spending some time searching. A few items are almost impossible to get without paying a silly price.

Thanks for the replies.
I have managed to find the bearings / seals as suggested at http://simplybearings.co.uk/

The brushes however are different from the ones linked above at spares marine.
They definitely need replacing, they look more than 3/4 worn.
It looks like the brush wire is (for the want of a better word) squashed in place, no tag.
Do you think it would be possible to solder a new one in position?

I would also need to source a suitable replacement brush.
The dimensions are 11.8mm wide by 6.3mm thick, plus what ever length they should be!

That looks as if they might come as a single fitting with brushes and holder, probably expensive if that's the case. My Quick Antares 100W model has very simple brushes with tags and that's why £100 seemed excessive for mine.

I've just contacted http://www.mrcarbonbrush.com to ask if they can supply brushes.

Measurements taken from my slightly worn brushes are also quite different from sizes you quoted. It might still be worth contacting them to see if they can help.

Tangential: 12.9mm
Axial: 8.9mm
Radial 24.4mm

The brushes look as if they are spot-welded in place .... perhaps spot-soldered would be the correct term. Anyway, they can be soldered in place, preferably with a decent gas iron. With a good iron you will be able to use a higher melting point solder as well.

I had to replace soldered brushes on my engine fan last year so I just clipped off the old already-tinned wires close to the holding plate and tinned the ends of the new brush wires so I was able to solder the new wires onto both the old wire and the plate.

I bought the brushes very cheaply by phoning up one of the online brush suppliers and giving them the brush size and describing its appearance use so they could deduce the brush material. You can work out what the original length should be by pushing in the old stub and measuring how much needs replacing. A few mm either way is not a problem.

My experience of dealing with Quick isn't good. Over a winter I lost the plastic cover from the cockpit chain counter display. Italy told me via email that I had to speak to their UK importer who in turn asked me to get any Chandler to order the part. It cost almost £40 for a 20p piece of plastic. Even the Chandler said he was embarrassed to have to charge so much.

So, in the end I managed to source some brushes from here.

The choices were a very good match. Almost the correct size and the lead exiting from the side and not the top. Which appears to be common with all starter motor brushes. (Not received them yet)

The next thing I need is the case gasket. I don't have a sample with me as I binned it when it broke up upon removal, but it seemed like some sort of hard-ish rubber compound?
Would anyone know of a gasket material that comes in sheets, that I could make my own, and would be suitable for this application?
Some thing like this maybe?

Thanks

I've had some issues with our Quick Hector windlass recently and found Quick in Italy very helpful for technical advice in English over email.

I also destroyed the main case gasket getting the cover off. Marine Super Store have one on order for me via Bainbridge for £5 which while expensive for a bit of plastic is not horrendous.
