quick answers on SWORD anchors

Does anybody have actual experience of these anchors. I dont want to reopen an anchoring theme just would appreciate specific experiences.

More likely to get a Med user, where anchor use is every day and not a momentous occasion about which to wax ?lyrical?

Recall that the Sword was originally called the "Oceane" not so long ago. It was conceived as a budget version of the Spade, and has gone through three or four iterations and re-namings. You'll need to research both those names.

The Sword/Spade designer Alain Poiraud is now in Brazil under a new outfit "Ancora Latina", and the newest version of the design is called the "Raya".

Sorry, but this reply is neither INFORMATIVE nor NEUTRAL!

The RAYA anchor manufactured in Brasil by Ancora Latina ( web page ) is a completely different anchor than either the Oceane or the Sword.

This answer from one competitor has for only purpose to disturb the mind of potential users and is a new version of Craig Smith’s strategy against his competitors: Spade – Manson Supreme and now the RAYA anchor .

The RAYA anchor is an improved version over the Rocna anchor – Without the BSH ( Big Stupid Hoop /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif – easier to store on the bow roller and less weight at the wrong place ) with more weight on the tip ( better penetration ) a much more bigger blade surface area ( More holding ) and <u>a cheaper price</u> .

so Alain, considering that both designs and manufacturers have a lot of respect from the people on this forum, was there actually anything wrong with this statement?

Alain: if you want to make such claims, you need to have the benefit of testing and feedback behind them. Since the Oceane and Sword have tested fairly badly in comparison with their big brother Spade, which in turn consistently tests a little more poorly than the Rocna, you have much ground to make up. Moreover, your imagined problems with the roll-bar simply do not exist, according to the now vast and varied collective experience of Rocna users around the world.

On the other hand, Peter has had the opportunity to examine and test a Raya, and I have the results of that including photos plus several pages of critique from him on its design.

You will recall from posts I have made in the past that when designing the Rocna, Peter's fundamental objective was to avoid inefficient tip-weight ballast from the design (a la the Spade). Before settling on the roll-bar as the ultimate solution, he tried several prototypes very similar to the Sword / Raya concept, but abandoned them as ineffective and not reliable enough, for a number of reasons.

Independent testing and feedback to-date has suggested he was correct, and I will leave it there.

For my own part, I would prefer to focus on educating boaters concerning the real problems with the old generation anchors, and not waste time bickering with other new generation alternatives.
