question 4 diy antifoul experts

im going to sand down the hull on thursday to remove loose a/f and to smooth off so i get a good finish, you diy guys who have done your own what grade paper did you use?, im using an orbital sander with dust collection and wearing all the protective gear.

I was always told not to use a sander, even by hand it makes too much toxic dust.
Best to pressure wash it off and scrap off the stubbon bits with a wallpaper type scrapper.

Thats what they told me at Brighton when I started mine, so I didnt sand it would take an eternity anyway

Yes, don't even try it Ian, orrible messy job, will take ages, dust gets everywhere and very unhealthy. Why not get it slurry blasted, not too expensive, will only take a few hours and job perfectly done.

wet sand it, bout 320 grade that way no dust, we used to wet sand the bottom of the race yacht with 1200 grade!!!

use a skarsten type scraper on the flakey bits.

Power wash hull to clean off all flake and rubbish,time spent here will give benifit later, scrape off all flake, use sander with coarse paper to finish.
1x coat International Prima-con 2 x top coats anti foul.
Note Aluminium parts must not be done with normal anti-foul,you can use Pria-con but plus special aluminium antifoul
Do not paint anodes
Yes hard work,last me two years in salt water river and offshore use.
Yes you must wear mask and goggles,get ant-foul in your eyes and you will wish you listened to us older ones

Who needs a gym when there's anti-fouling to do
