Having had a wonderful time cruising the Spanish Rias all summer and berthing in Davila Sport marina Vigo. I am considering heading south to Gibraltar.

Has anyone got any information or experience regarding Queens Quay marina with regards to safety and security.

Or any other helpful information
Kind regards

I suggest you repost this in the Liveaboard forum, there are lots of experts and expats in there with the knowledge you seek......

We stayed in Queens Quay a month ago for a week. Security was good, a small swell did work it's way in on a couple of nights, but nothing very much when we were there. Short walk to main street and about 15-20 minutes to Morrisons. We did book in advance as it was the busy period and it did get full on a couple of nights, probably more space now. The other marina also seemed ok when we visited and similar distances to places - hope this helps

Hi,

I have a 15m Berth in QQM in Gibraltar and live in an apartment in the Marina. Security is excellent, there are entry codes on all pontoons and the liveaboards and locals watch out. I have not had a single problem. Gibraltar is safe anyway and QQM is very safe! It has higher quality bars and restaurants so you do not get the larger louts comming down so no thrown bottles, vomit or urination onto boats. There is a thriving liveaboard community camped out in the Lounge Bar every night where pints are £2.70 on the quayside! So security is probably the best I have come accross.

As for safety, the marina has been subject to 2 years of horrendous swells during winter storms which have broken lines and damaged boats. This is as a result of the new container port in Algeceras funneling waves back accross the bay. However the marina are about to spend £500k on remedial work to sort this out (work starts in 10 days) so hopefully the issues will be a lot less this year. However, the boats that get damaged are those which are just left with no one looking after them for months and months. I have not had any damage as if the wind/swell gets up I go down and look after my boat and those around me!

It is a relaxed marina and I would recommend it. I hope the swell issues will be sorted, I have seen the plans and the wave surveys so they should work and will be done in 6 weeks!

If you are leaving your boat there make sure you buy a couple of extra sets of mooring warps just in case and give me a shout! We are all boat lovers and happy to help.

In terms of facilities, the Toilets and showers are good, there is a good laundrette, 4 good restaurants (including Indian) and a great bar (Lounge Bar) with free wifi and sky sports on quietly. They also do bacon butties!

If you want to know more PM me and I will send you my mobile number!

Cheers

Paul

Suggest you consider the new Alcaidesa marina (La Linea) - a fraction of the price of anywhere else.

I agree. The new marina is very nice, but empty of boats. Only about 30 there. However it is only €22 a night for a 15m so cheap as chips! Not much in terms of a community but a cheap, good quality Marina.

It has not been tested in the winter storms yet so cannot comment about safety but it is very secure!

Hi Paul Thank you very much for your kind reply, I have now decided to stay in Vigo for the winter because of work committment. It is my intention to arrive for Easter in Gib.
I visited Gib about 5 years ago whilst diving the area but before that I spent many months thier whilst in the navy.
I will keep intouch and contact you near the time of my arrival.
Kind regards
Nick

Hi We met a couple who had visited that marina and said they were witness to a robbery. Two jet skiers went into the marina and tried to steal a dinghy and outboard from a boat but because it was chained to the yacht they could not undo it so slashed the tubes so it sunk.
Thank you for your reply and advise.
