Queens Jubilee

I am particularly sad for those of you that took the trouble to participate in the rehearsal as it was suggested at that time that doing so, although not carrying a guarantee of inclusion, would be likely to significantly enhance ones chances of being selected.
 
36 boats bothered to attend the practice run and would hope that at least a few of those were selected,however just wonder what exactly the the other 30 odd boats did to get to go.

Everyones name in a hat perhaps ?
 
Rejected as well, however with our boat I expected it!!

Really sad to hear that the people who took the time and effort to join the rehersals didn't get picked.
 
I'm a reject. Also replied to the email link in my rejection email to get my bank side tickets to find that didn't work either!!

Still, booked into st kats for five days, sounds like quite a few if you are too - cuold be fun :)
 
That can't be right, I couldnt spell it so didn't use it. (pageant, not "it") Sorry you are not in,
I dont understand the selection method. Just a thought, did you take the mickey of rehearsal on here? ps couldn't spell critisise?
 
Ah so !

must have been this sealed our fate.

"Just been reading the debrief email and the leisure motorboaters did quite well all things considered.
Basically if the other sections of the flottila had got their act together and left on time things could have been a little less hectic . "
 
I was rejected too, even though I'm moored at Putney just by the start.

I'm very surprised there doesn't seem to be a reserve list of vessels. I reckon there will be at least a 20% drop out on the day; boat trouble, illness, weather and actually getting to Putney which isn't excatly easy for South Coast based boats.

Perhaps there is a reserve list (made up of remaining ATYC members) that hasn't been publicised?

I agree with you. Now we are not in I feel I can be open: it was/is a party for blue flags.
 
I realise people are disappointed but the selections were made using a strict system of PLA/MCA Officers and Surveyors and sub-committee members so I doubt very much that its a fix up job!

A number of stand-by vessels will be retained in each squadron in case of cancellations.

Conspiracy theories always abound in issues like this, particularly when people feel aggrieved that a level playing field has not been in evidence.
I have no axe to grind as I did not express any interest in participating. However, I did try and assist the ATYC by publicising the rehearsal on this forum when it was clear they were struggling to get the numbers they would have liked. I think at least one or two forumites did respond to that appeal and took part as a result.
Is there any published procedure that defines the selection process and who are the 'sub committee members' that you refer to?

I have watched with interest the comments on the motor boat cruiser selection. Acknowledging that this is an extremely prestigious event, surely we want the best looking boats to participate with as wide a selection of models as possible ? Applicants who have had rejections might ask themselves whether their particular boat was likely to have been the only one of its type or whether it really was the best of its type to have been applied for consideration. I sympathise with those who participated in the rehearsals especially when they travelled considerable distances but believe the selection should be that to give the best pageant display.
 
Perhaps with hindsight, it would have been helpful if the organisers had made their intentions clear from the outset by saying what sorts and conditions of craft they were expecting.

Saying that the MCA are involved says to me that they were only interested in seagoing craft - probably because - to me- the MCA know diddly squat about our inland waterways (no derogatory intent - but why should they).

To respond to Reverend Ludd, surely the intention was to make the flotilla as inclusive as possible and NOT pack it out with SW1 cronies.

You can't say that Our Dear Queen distances herself and her Family from the greater and lesser unwashed.

As to conspiracy theories, if I was organising such an event - especially as the quality and quantity of entrants is unknown to me - I would certainly look to clubs as a point of coordination. At the least that would / should save me some effort and potentially ensure some form of standard.
However, that may apply to coastal craft but certainly not to non tidal Thames boaters.

It is unfortunate that a certain person has put it around that the ATYC represents all Thames boaters which is not so. It only represents members of Thames Yacht clubs and not many boaters are members of Thames Yacht clubs for whatever reasons.

When a new organisation such as the TMBA attempts to provide a body to sweep up those who don't want to belong to a geographical club as an alternative their affiliation is actively opposed by said person.

With major cutbacks looming in the level of services on the River, now is the time not only for factions to bury their differences, but also for more River users to join one "club" or another to work out an acceptable solution. (Fred Drift)
