Queens Jubilee flypast, Windsor, May 19th 2012

Well I hope all you lucky local moorers enjoyed that.
We had the TV and surround sound turned up high here and the whole ceremony was fantastic.
Not a dry eye in the house.
There weren't huge crowds in Windsor - so perhaps folks were caught out as was I.

Certainly nobody was made aware of this event outside local area.

Oh good, (well not really - in the wider sense) I thought It might be just me having a senior moment.

I did find a reference later on the Palace's appointments pages later - as a Throwaway line.

Gives me an excuse to get on my high horse again.
It beggars belief to see great opportunities for public rejoicing and spectacle often at some considerable expense to be missed because of P.Poor information about it being circulated.

  • Good crowds in Windsor but not huge.
  • Information on here kindly posted, but the sources was a Forces "internal" site.
  • Excellent TV coverage.
  • Perhaps the organisers felt it was a private do for the Forces only and a chance for HMQ to go for a burn in the Bentley?

Were it not for the fact that the Jubilee Pageant boat-past appears to be similarly "private", I wouldn't have made a comment.

Tourism in this country is a big earner and folks flock in from all over to see our ceremonies which we do exceedingly, exceedingly well, but then we don't get the information across to drag the punters in

Argh...First on the water and now in the air......

Being a bit of a flying enthusiast, would probably gone to Windsor for the day and watched this event.Would have involved me spending actual money as well .
Spoke to at least Thames boater who would have taken his boat up there for the weekend as well.
Nobody promoted the fly past at all even though both the The Red Arrows and the BMF would both have to been booked at least a year ago or more.
